Comment: School Transformation and Empowerment Partnerships (STEP) GP

The 2023 cohort of learners’ overall average performance in the Gauteng MBSA Tshwane STEP project schools increased by 0,58% from 82,28% to 82,86% which is slightly lesser than the provincial and national average performances of 85,4% and 82,9% respectively. This cohort of learners was still reeling under the content gaps caused by Covid lock down’s loss of learning time and increased load shedding schedules which further minimised any chances of revision or study at night. Despite these adverse conditions, signs of recovery are now seen in Saulridge, Edward Phatudi, Hofmeyr and Modiri which posted up pleasing outcomes whilst Mapenane, WF Nkomo and Phelindaba did not fare well but remained above 70% and 80%.

Funda Afrika in 2024 through our planned stakeholder meetings, shall seek the support of the local District Officials and all participants to come up with school specific strategies for schools that have struggled to increase their pass rates. The STEP programme planning shall include the additional annual initiatives in line with the deficiencies within the classrooms for the target achievement goals in 2024.

Funda Afrika with the assistance of partners completed all the annual initiatives, planning, school visits and support to both teachers and learners. Saulridge requested an urn for learners to have hot water for their tea and coffee to which Funda Afrika obliged hence their pleasing performance of 97,3% leading to their success end of the year.
